Resveratrol is a natural polyphenol found in red wine, peanuts, and some plants, including the herb Polygonum cuspidatum. Each soft gelatin capsule contains more resveratrol than a regular bottle of red wine.
Functional action:
Resveratrol is the most powerful antioxidant, surpassing in its activity vitamin E by 50 times, beta-carotene by 4-5 times, vitamin C by 20 times. It neutralizes and removes free radicals of exo- and endogenous origin from the body, protecting the tissues of the body from their destruction.
Resveratrol effectively protects the cardiovascular system: it maintains the elasticity of vessel walls, normalizes the level of lipids (cholesterol) in the blood, helps reduce blood viscosity, and reduces the risk of blood clots. In addition, resveratrol increases the resistance of low-density lipoproteins to oxidation.
Resveratrol has phytoestrogen properties. It exhibits estrogenic activity by binding to the same receptors as estradiol, the main human estrogen. With significantly less hormonal activity than estradiol, resveratrol can act even more strongly than estradiol in physiological concentrations.
However, it is important that unlike estradiol and estrone, which stimulate the development of hormone-dependent tumors, resveratrol has an antitumor effect, blocking the reproduction of tumor cells. Competing with estradiol for receptors, resveratrol reduces the stimulating effect of estradiol on hormone-dependent tumor cells.
Resveratrol has an anti-carcinogenic effect: it counteracts carcinogenic factors, suppresses the processes in cells that lead to the occurrence and development of oncological diseases, restrains the growth and reproduction of cancer cells, while simultaneously stimulating the ability to regenerate healthy cells.
It has an anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antibacterial effect.
Supports the smoothness and elasticity of the skin, stimulating the synthesis of collagen fibers. Prevents premature skin aging.
Recent studies have demonstrated the photoprotective effect of resveratrol against UV radiation. Oxidative stress induced by ultraviolet radiation is one of the main causes of premature skin aging. This is due to the fact that this UV radiation leads to the destruction of collagen, thereby causing the formation of wrinkles.
Resveratrol protects collagen from destruction, and also prevents the increase of melanin content in the epidermis.
Resveratrol neutralizes the release of histamine, providing an anti-allergic effect.
Resveratrol lowers blood sugar levels.
Improves visual acuity, is effective for damage to the retina.
It has a neuroprotective effect, reduces the accumulation of beta-amyloid, preventing the onset of neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases), improves memory.
Has antimutagenic activity. Protects the cell genome from damage by active radicals. Restores the structure of damaged genes, thereby preventing the inheritance of a number of diseases.
