As soon as his eventful life was featured on TV, the circumstances of the veteran pianist, who had been completely unknown until then, changed completely. This debut CD, released to coincide with the broadcast, sold like hotcakes, and concert tickets sold out in no time. Then, before I knew it, a late-blooming star had been born in the Japanese classical music world.
One of the things you notice when you listen to the pianist Fujiko Hemming's performance is that the music does not tire the listener. He doesn't rush forward at breakneck speed to show off his technique. It does not overly emphasize the strength or weakness of the sound. Don't push excessive self-absorption. If I were to compare it to a sentence, I would say it's a colloquial sentence that expresses what I think in an easy-to-understand manner, without using difficult kanji or idioms. Still, he knows how to capture people's hearts. The tone is warm, with a hint of coquette. So it's easy on the ears.
In the title song "La Campanella", the high notes reverberate beautifully, giving the impression that the sound of a bell can be heard from far away. Originally, it was a perfect song to show off her virtuosity, but she never accepted the invitation and took it easy. The gentle, slightly retro, ``Japanese'' style of the performance suddenly touches our hearts, which tend to be nervous. It is no wonder that many people say, ``Fujiko Hemming comforts me.''
